[C]Worthy is a nonprofit Focused Research Organization advancing the science and responsible practice of ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR). We build the models, datasets, and digital infrastructure the field needs to help evaluate ocean CDR approaches, understand their impacts, and support better decisions.

Our Theory of Change

For abiotic ocean-based CDR pathways—like ocean alkalinity enhancement and direct ocean capture—to be implemented at climate-relevant scales, it is essential to quantify the amount of carbon dioxide that is removed from the atmosphere. In the ocean, this quantification requires a combination of direct observations and science based modeling systems. At [C]Worthy, we focus on the models.

Our theory of change is straightforward. When standardized scientific modeling infrastructure exists, research progresses more rapidly, carbon removal claims become verifiable, and decisions become governable. This reduces information asymmetry between researchers, developers, regulators, and communities, enables more effective oversight, and lowers the risk of weak standards.
