The Efficiency Maps

These open, interactive web tools allow users to explore the efficiency of ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) deployments around the world. They focus on two ocean CDR pathways: ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE)  and direct ocean removal (DOR).

The ocean’s ability to absorb and store carbon varies by location, season, and circulation patterns. Built in collaboration with (carbon)plan, the OAE and DOR Efficiency Maps use global ocean physical and biogeochemical model simulations to show how these dynamics affect the carbon removal and storage potential of different deployment locations.
